So many things, ideas and concepts are involved in the creation of design elements. So many factors are mixed and mingled, as design comes where creativity and planning meet. But what is inspiration in the design world, and what is its role?
Everyone of us probably has his/her own idea, and of course every idea is perfectly fine and right. There is no good answer, and the collection of every answer is probably the best response to this question.
So, we picked up the answers IDA designers gave us: it’s the best way to have a complete and inclusive picture. It’s the only way to really understand how the creation process works, and how many differences there are among the designers.
Because a complex and different design world is a rich and prolific world.
Living in a house made of selenite in a historical borgo in Bologna’s hills, I was fascinated by the history, properties and beauty of this rock. I took a lot of inspiration to build the floral motifs from Bologna’s architecture.
I decided to focus on a specific material, porcelain paper clay. This is the only fixed point. This material stimulates me to research constantly: sometimes I follow its peculiarities, sometimes I try to force it in unexpected directions.
I take inspiration from the products and the devices that I know, and I try to mix them to create the right interactions in the right place.
The best ideas, the most productive inspirations: all of this comes by thinking to something else at all. You go hiking, riding a bike, you hang out for a beer with friends, for a movie and so on. It’s so important to constantly mix my work with my private life.
Everyday life is my first source of inspiration. I love trying to interpret ideas, trying to tell stories. But I don’t want to forget that my creations always need to be functional.
I take inspiration from everything I see and strikes me. Beauty lies on the elaborating process for the inputs, which are sometimes different among them.
Every project is a journey, and most of the times it’s hard. An idea is not enough for a good product. Everything need to be credible and solid. Projects must be built always keeping in mind the characters, the setting, the plot, the title, the moral.
Inspiration is a strictly personal concept, and I sincerely can’t say where it comes from. To stick on a project, memory is my best friend.
